Description
You are cordially invited to join us on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 6:00 pm, as we celebrate our nation's 250th anniversary with author Nancy B. Kennedy. Her illustrated presentation, This Sacred Soil unveils the little-known story of New Jersey's early women voters and the revolutionary women whose courage helped forge a nation.
Join us at Hopewell Valley Vineyards for an evening of handcrafted wines, delicious hors d'oeuvres, brick-oven pizza, and fascinating history.
Nancy's presentation will transport us back to 1776, when New Jersey adopted a remarkable constitution that granted voting rights to "all inhabitants of this colony," opening the door for some women and free Black persons to cast their ballots. Meet these early suffrage pioneers—some from our own area—who exercised their right to vote for 31 years before being disenfranchised in 1807.
Then, take a whirlwind journey through the thirteen colonies—twelve of which enfranchised only men—and discover the stories of women whose courage, sacrifice, and determination helped the Patriots win the American Revolution, despite being denied a voice in the new nation they helped create.
