During Women’s History Month, Knox Grove Financial is honored to spotlight remarkable local women who are not only shaping our economy and institutions but helping define the future of our community. Through this series, we celebrate entrepreneurs, authors, attorneys, educators, and visionaries, women we have the pleasure of working with who build businesses from the ground up, lead organizations, guide clients through complex decisions, and inspire the next generation.
Our final feature for the March Blog Series highlights Karin Eckerson, Founder and Principal Designer of Karin Eckerson Interiors. With two decades of experience planning, designing, and creating homes along the East Coast, Karin brings a unique perspective shaped by her previous work as a family therapist. That experience taught her how intuitive listening and genuine empathy can transform the way people experience a space, and she now applies those skills to design homes that feel authentically lived-in and deeply personal. Her work creates more than beautiful interiors; it fosters a sense of home that resonates with the people who live there.
At the heart of her work is a deeply personal approach, which she shares here:
Designing Beyond Aesthetics
Have you ever felt that your home doesn’t truly reflect who you are or the way you live? As a residential interior designer and showroom owner, I help clients transform their homes into spaces that feel both beautiful and deeply personal. With access to carefully curated furnishings, materials, and design resources, I collaborate closely with my clients—whether reimagining a single room, designing an entire home, or working on a new build from the ground up. My goal is to create spaces that go beyond aesthetics—homes that feel authentic, comfortable, and perfectly suited to the people who live in them. This all starts with a conversation.
What is a financial decision you made that you’re especially proud of?
Starting my design business has allowed our two children to graduate from college debt-free, giving them a strong foundation for their futures. It was a decision that required planning, discipline, and long-term thinking, but seeing the impact it has on my family has been incredibly rewarding.
What advice would you give other women building something of their own?
Bet on yourself! You will never work harder than you do for yourself, and you reap all of the benefits. Believe in your vision, embrace challenges as learning opportunities, and remember that your dedication will pay off in ways you may not yet imagine.
