During Women’s History Month, Knox Grove Financial is honored to spotlight remarkable local women who are not only shaping our economy and institutions but helping define the future of our community. These women, who are also valued clients include entrepreneurs, authors, attorneys, educators, and visionaries. Some have built businesses from the ground up. Others lead organizations, guide clients through complex decisions, or help shape the next generation.
One such leader is Darlene Mayernik, who has spent decades helping families navigate one of life’s most meaningful milestones - buying or selling a home. Known for her thoughtful guidance and steady leadership, Darlene has built a reputation for combining deep market expertise with a genuine commitment to the people she serves. Through her work in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, she has helped countless clients move forward with clarity and confidence, making her a trusted advisor in the communities she serves.
Strategy, Service, Results
I am a Broker Associate and Team Leader of The Mayernik Real Estate Group, a family team at Keller Williams Premier. For more than 25 years, I’ve helped families move forward and build their legacies through real estate. Licensed in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, I focus on combining strategy, market expertise, and a hospitality-driven approach to guide clients through one of life’s most important decisions. My team and I pride ourselves on handling the details so our clients can focus on the bigger picture and move forward with confidence into their next chapter.
What is a financial decision you made that you’re especially proud of?
One financial decision that I made early on in my career that I am very proud of is: I pay myself first. The money seems to come in and go out fast, so I treat myself like a creditor. I have a separate account set up for taxes, savings and investing. A percentage of each check that comes in goes to those three accounts. The rest pays the bills. And we keep these accounts at a different bank from our primary accounts so that it's harder to get to the money. These accounts grow nicely because of compounding interest.
What does financial independence mean to you?
Financial independence to me means freedom. It's the freedom to have options whether it's with work or with play. I am a big believer in Hard Now, Easy Later. If you set up your business now to create financial independence, you'll be able to get your time back later. It is a wonderful feeling to wake up and say, "I get to go to work" as opposed to "I have to go to work." It changes how you see everything.
